Traditional and contempory art, music, food and drink is coming to Berkeley and Richmond, summer 2007.
In celebration of the 40th anniversaries of the sister-city relationship between Berkeley and Sakai and of the Berkeley Art Center, you are invited to join in and support this special celebration.
Berkeley Bridge Artists (BBA) promotes artistic exchange and goodwill between artists of the East Bay and Japan, just like its parent organization, the Berkeley Sakai Association. BBA's mission of artists fostering communication and understanding expands the association’s impact. BBA, founded in 2005, is uniquely positioned to provide interaction between artists and communities.
Recent BBA programs include: Solo exhibits by Berkeley artists in Sakai in 2005 and 2006, Berkeley artists' exhibit and visit to Sakai as a group in 2006, and Sakai artists exhibiting in and visiting Berkeley in Summer 2007. A number of these Japanese artists are designated Living National Treasures of Japan, the rarest and highest honor the Japanese Government can bestow on an artist.
Currently BBA is seeking financial sponsorships for the Summer 2007 art exchange.
Our plans include three art exhibitions, cultural events, studio visits, and “home stays” with local families for the visiting Japanese artists. Eight traditional Japanese artists will exhibit their work at the Berkeley Art Center. Fifty Sakai and BBA artists will jointly exhibit their work at the Richmond Art Center, and Alta Bates Gallery in Berkeley. BBA is an all-volunteer organization funded solely by donations and grants.
Your financial support is critical. It will enable us to further develop and celebrate the 40th anniversary of our sister-city relationship with Sakai. We hope you will join us in this opportunity to welcome the Japanese artists and their families. Of course, you and/or your organization will be prominently listed as a sponsor in all publicity and you will be invited to join in the summer long activities. The Summer Festival will be an exciting and unique opportunity for the entire community to embrace the East without leaving the East Bay.
Please make your donation check out to the Berkeley Sakai Association (BBA's fiscal sponsor) and mail it to:
Maria LaForge, Treasurer, Berkeley Sakai Association/Berkeley Bridge Artists, 240 Columbia Avenue, Kensington, CA 94709.
Thank you for your support.
